British Airways may reduce connections

Current government policy in regards to aviation in the United Kingdom may result in less routes being served by British Airways from London.

Richard Tams, head of sales and marketing for British Airways, used the ACTE Executive Forum in London as a platform to deliver a warning to the UK government.

“Connection is important.

“The government under-estimates the value of the number of passengers transferring through the UK”, said Mr Tams.

The Air Passenger Duty is on the rise and Mr Tams has called on the industry to be more involved and lobby against tax hikes.

“We must speak as one voice.

“The airline industry is seen as a bottomless pot for the treasury to draw on,” he said.

According to Mr Tams, the high frequency and flight demand in the UK exists because of passengers transferring through Heathrow.
