New South Wales’ regional areas are feeling neglected after Oprah’s visit focused on tourist attractions within Sydney.
Earlier this week, the Coalition offered regional tourism boards a $5 million boost in tourism marketing funding, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The extra funding will allow areas, particularly Victoria, to promote walking tours, music festivals, conferences and farming accommodation.
“The tourism and hospitality industry in regional NSW is one of the best sectors to invest in to strengthen the economy as it is one of the largest employers,” Forum of Regional Tourism Organisations chairman Randall Walker said.Offering “the greatest boost to regional tourism the history of the state”, the opposition tourism spokesperson George Souris said the Coalition would not play favouritism and would not put all efforts into Sydney.
