On 23rd June 2011 Dublin’s Lord Mayor, Gerry Breen, launched a new iPhone app iSpySculpture Dublin.

iSpySculpture Dublin is an easy-to-use, interactive iPhone guide to a selection of fifty of Dublin’s rich collection of public sculptures. Suitable for locals and visitors alike the guide features maps to locate and create your own walking tour or sculpture trail. All the sculptures are within a 1km. radius of the city centre.

The Lord Mayor launched iSpySculpture Dublin in the appropriate setting of the Children of Lír sculpture in the Garden of Remembrance at Parnell Square.  He said  “This app represented a unique combination of technology and a traditional art form. By enhancing tourist visitor enjoyment, iSpySculpture Dublin is a valuable contribution to the overall tourist industry.”

  • The app carries a photograph, a short text description (of the work, who made it, and its background story) and a map location for 50 selected pieces of sculpture, almost all within a one kilometre radius of O’Connell Bridge, at the centre of the City.
  • The artworks are organised by street area. This makes it easy to plan a visit, to create a short tour (your own sculpture trail), or to check out a single work. There is an A to Z listing to make it easier to find a particular piece. Each sculpture has a Google-map reference to facilitate location and a link to Google maps for directions.
  • All this information (except for the maps, which are supplied by Google maps) is included in the app, so visitors to Dublin need not incur roaming charges, unless they chose to use the map feature.
  • The iSpySculpture Dublin app has been developed with the assistance of a Cultural Technology Grant from the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
  • The iSpySculpture Dublin app is a Dublin Tourism Partner.
  • The iSpySculpture Dublin app is available from the App Store at a cost of €2.99.
