NYC & Company Launches Social Media Accounts in International markets

Nine International Facebook and Twitter Accounts Created to Reach a Larger Audience and Promote NYC Abroad

NYC & Company, New York City’s marketing, tourism and partnership organization, announced it launched nine international Facebook and Twitter accounts at the U.S. Travel Association’s International Pow Wow in San Francisco on May 24—a first among U.S. destinations. In an effort to promote New York City to a larger audience and expand its global social media presence, NYC & Company’s offices in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and the UK will directly engage and inform their markets with social media tools in their own languages. While the international Facebook accounts will speak to consumers and fans of NYC, the Twitter channels will cater to trade partners and media interested in following and covering activity in the City.

“New York City has 100% awareness and is always a topic of conversation around the world,” said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta. “Through social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter we will be better able to put our ear to the ground, serve up relative and newsworthy items, and generate a genuine conversation about NYC with visitors, travel writers, and journalists overseas.”

Via Facebook, consumers abroad will be kept up-to-date on new openings, City celebrations, travel tips, discount programs, promotions and more across the City’s five boroughs. Twitter will provide journalists and the travel trade with the latest press releases, press photos, news, stats and reports. In addition to these international accounts, NYC & Company also launched an NYC-based Twitter account (@nycgo_press) for media to directly engage with NYC & Company’s Communications team in real time.
