US dominate air traffic


International air traffic to and from the United States was 108 million passengers for the year ending July 2013, up by four percent year-on-year.

48.8 million US citizens travelled this year compared to last year, representing a three percent year-on-year increase and contributing to 45 percent of the overall air traffic for the year, while the 59.1 million non-US citizen air travellers represented a five percent year-over-year boost, compared to 2012.

US airlines carried 41.4 million passengers, while foreign counterparts carried 38.7 million passengers, an increase of two percent and five percent, respectively.

Europe witnessed 30 million air travellers in FY2013, followed by Asia with just over 16 million passengers.
