Hilton Worldwide has added three renewable energy projects to its Carbon Offset Program, as part of plans to expand the initiative throughout Southeast Asia.
Joining the Borneo Rainforest Rehabilitation Program in Malaysia are; the Mungcharoen Biomass Project in Thailand, the Musi Hydro Project in Indonesia and the Song Ong Small Hydro Project in Vietnam.
The programme, which began in October 2012, measures the carbon footprint of meetings events held at Hilton Worldwide properties in Southeast Asia and offsets the amount by purchasing carbon credits, at no extra cost to its customers.
“In the first 12 months of the Carbon Offset Program in Southeast Asia we offset 7,200 tons of carbon emitted from events held in our properties, which well exceeds our initial carbon offset target of 6,000 tons and is a credit to our hotels, teams and customers,” Hilton Worldwide vice president operations William Costley said.
Joining the initiative as of 1 January 2014 are; DoubleTree by Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok, Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok in Thailand, Hilton Hanoi Opera and Hilton Garden Inn Hanoi.
