Prêt-à-Portea, a fashionista’s afternoon tea at the Berkeley

201076Lemon biscuits, white chocolate mousses and blueberry compotes are all set for the annual couture makeover inspired by the world’s top fashion designers, as the Berkeley in Knightsbridge launches its new Spring/Summer 2014 Prêt-à-Portea collection. A firm date in every fashionista’s diary, Prêt-à-Portea is designed to add a creative twist to the classic elements of the traditional English afternoon tea with cakes and pastries resembling the latest catwalk designs for the style conscious. Prêt-à-Portea has become a-must visit location on the London style map.

This season’s Prêt-à-Portea at the Berkeley includes fashionista delectables such as Miu Miu’s exotic-skin tote bag with chocolate pecan moelleux, Christian Louboutin’s chocolate biscuit Pigalle Spike heel with fresh turquoise hue icing and signature red sole and Dsquared mini strapless mango bavarois dress with a blueberry compote topped with hot pink lampshade hat.

Inspired by this season’s print craze of grids, triangles concentric circles and more, Victoria Beckham’s geometric print cherry and white chocolate mousse shirt is a real flashback to geometry class.

Pirouetting onto the stand this summer is Alberta Ferreti pretty in pink Sicilian Guava and lemon verbena pannacotta with striped ballerina-inspired skirt and strappy show tuile and perfectly on trend radiating “positive energy” and the “joy of living”.

Making her debut to Prêt-à-Portea and taking the fashion world by storm is Simone Rocha’s pineapple and coconut Savarin shirt dress with a “wow” lime punk spun sugar.

Transforming wearable pieces that make high profile dressing a breeze is Emilia Wickstead striped fuchsia pink and orange joconde with tropical crème patissiere blazed with a twirly fruit cone. Boasting some of the globe’s most stylish women as fans, Oscar de la Renta’s flirtatious summer pistachio sponge cake dress topped with poppy seed parfait and edible flower adds timeless glamour to this summer’s most fabulous parties. Splashing onto our plates this season is Karla Colletto’s lemon biscuit swimsuit with cherry red icing and pretty rosette-appliqued neckline.

The Berkeley pastry chefs visit London fashion week shows to get their inspiration for the colours and the textures of the new collections. Prêt-à-Portea will echo the season’s trends of soft pinks, festive sparkles and patterns galore.

The Berkeley has forged links with Wedgwood who have produced a bespoke collection of fine-bone china for Prêt-à-Portea. Inspired by the current trends and styles, but mindful of their heritage, Wedgwood has created an exquisite multicoloured diamond shaped pattern gracing the new china for the ultimate fashion touch.
