Working towards reaching the goal of 100 million international visitors by 2021, which would see an increase in spending of up to USD $250 billion, the US Travel Association is currently revising its Visa Waiver Program to add more countries, a move favoured by the travel industry.

The Visa Waiver Program has shown that countries which are included in the policy would greatly benefit the USA’s economy, increasing the amount of visitors by 500,000 per year, creating 31,600 jobs and ultimately contributing USD $5.3 billion annually.

With one in nine Americans working in travel and tourism and tourists currently spending around USD $4,500 per visit, the industry is highly rewarding for the country’s economy.

However, officials are concerned that the market is not growing as quickly as in other countries due to strict visa regulations in thriving countries such as China and India.
