Take Me Out: Mixing it up in Manhattan

New York City; dynamic, vibrant and full of variety

With its world famous night scene of intimate cocktail lounges, dynamic dance clubs and relaxed pubs, New York’s vibrant streets thrive well into the night.  The crowds of beautiful people, kaleidoscopic lights, and pulsating energy ensure the city that never sleeps truly lives up to its reputation.

Made even more famous by those sassy cocktail sipping Sex and the City ladies, there’s no denying that the Manhattan nightlife is an attraction in itself, luring in millions of visitors both locally and internationally to fall under her spell once the sun goes down.

As one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, attracting a record high of 54.3 million visitors last year, New York has an abundance of famous attractions featuring high on every tourist’s bucket list, and although checking out the city’s dynamic nightlife is on there, it can be a somewhat daunting experience.

With thousands of bars and nightclubs to choose from, many of them complete with ridiculous entry fees, scary bouncers and lines that snake around the entire block, it can be an intimidating and overwhelming process just knowing where to begin.

Add to that the city’s fast paced changeover rate, where the bar your friend went to last month and recommended is no longer there, and the fact most of the best venues are tucked away from the main hotel districts, it can be difficult for newcomers to find the best the city has to offer.

The answer would be to make friends with a local, one that’s in the know and well connected, and get them to take you out…

That’s just the idea 27 year old New Yorker Ori Mor had when he realised the need for a knowledgeable, local, city nightlife guide and went on to successfully create and launch “Take Me Out,” the number one TripAdvisor ranked New York City nightlife tour.

Shiny, happy people enjoying a Take Me Out experience in New York

Soft spoken, entrepreneurial and extremely well connected, Mor created a variety of limousine chauffeured nightlife tours after spending months taking his international friends out in the city when they came to visit and was recently awarded TripAdvisor’s coveted Certificate of Excellence.

“When I started this in 2012, I expected a great outcome, but I never expected to see the success we’ve had in such a short amount of time, it really is testament to our fantastic, dedicated staff and truly unique product offering,” Take Me Out chief executive officer and founder, Ori Mor said.

Whether you’re visiting NYC for the first time or are a local planning a special event, Take Me Out offers a variety of carefully tailored tours to choose from, with the focus on exclusive, top quality venues and equally matched drinks, making it quite possibly the best nightlife experience you can have in New York.

Taking the hassle out of planning a night out, Take Me Out handles everything from transportation to reservations, getting you past the bouncers, velvet ropes and mile long lines, cruising you around the city’s finest, most exclusive hot spots in a stylish black limousine with your very own bartender.

“VIP service begins the moment our guests are greeted by our expert guides and drivers and we pride ourselves on providing each and every one of our guests with a unique, quality and highly memorable experience.”

The stylish, black limousine complete with cocktail bar

On a recent visit to New York, Take Me Out took ETB News out for the time of our life with the Mixology tour – a three hour tour that led us to discover three of New York’s more exclusive cocktail bars you would never otherwise have known existed, with an emphasis on expertly crafted cocktails.

We were picked up by Mor himself and his driver, who whisked us off in a black limo through the streets of Manhattan while Mor mixed us cocktails in the limo’s cocktail bar in between bar visits.

Our first stop was the newly opened and editor’s personal favourite, The Skylark, a plush, impressive high rise bar with an extensive list of specialty cocktails.

Amongst the skyscapers at The Skylark

Requiring a somewhat intricate method of actually getting inside, through various elevators and staircases, the effort is completely worth it once those elevator doors slide open to reveal a New York loft style lounge with floor to ceiling windows offering breathtaking views of Manhattan’s iconic skyscrapers.

Our second venue was The Raines Law Room, a secretive, velvet clad speakeasy that required a doorbell to be rung before letting us inside its inconspicuous door.  Perhaps Mor may have even whispered a password too, we’ll never be quite sure.

An extensive cocktail menu is organised by alcohol category, depending on your poison of choice, and there are 15 categories to choose from.  Decisions, decisions…

Our last stop found us at another quirky speakeasy, sneakily tucked away behind a coffee shop.  The aptly named Bathtub Gin, has a large, bronze, claw foot bathtub right in the middle, providing plenty of fun photo opportunities.  This specialty gin bar takes its cocktails seriously, featuring an impressive gin collection and specialising in classic and modern gin cocktails.

Definitely a night to remember, the Take Me Out tour was a definite highlight of our fleeting visit to the Big Apple.

With New York City being the vibrant and varied concrete jungle of nightlife options that it is, we highly recommend visitors, especially first timers and the time poor, to take the hassle out of planning a night out and leave it to the experts at Take Me Out.
