The launch of this exciting new exhibition is perfectly timed to coincide with the city’s largest and most important art events in March which will see art lovers from around the region and the world descend upon Hong Kong, including Art Basel, and Art Central – where The Cat Street Gallery will be showcasing at.  Art@JPlushk’s pop-up will become a destination on the art map thanks to its cool pop art, featuring celebrated artists such as Peter Blake and James Gordon.

“March is truly a month of art in the city of Hong Kong, with the biggest art fair in the world – Art Basel – taking place then.  We are very excited to be co-presenting a new collection of art with The Cat Street Gallery at Art@JPlushk, while the city is saturated with global and local art aficionados,” says Ms Vivian Chau, General Manager, J Plus Hotel by YOO.

Peter Blake and James Gordon’s art are carefully curated by the keen eyes of the team at The Cat Street Gallery, to complement the funky style and playful design of J Plus Hotel by YOO.

Hailed as the ‘Godfather of British Pop Art’ Peter Blake’s work is immersed with colour, tinged with playfulness, and encompasses a slight sense of nostalgia owing largely to his depiction of everyday objects and surroundings and fascination of current pop culture.  Blake’s ‘Found Art’ and ‘Replay’ series are featured in the pop-up, which includes “Laurens”, his signature ‘cigarette packets’ silk screen, and “Marilyn Monroe, Black”, his eye-catching piece which features Marilyn Monroe on a black silk screen dusted with diamonds.

Born in Scotland and now based in Sydney, James Gordon has become one of Australia’s most sought-after and creative personalities. Gordon works across a range of artistic forms, including graphic and retail design, photographic styling and the fine arts. Gordon’s delicate watercolours and paper sculptures are often his most celebrated and intimate creative output, revealing his flair for transforming the everyday and his exquisite eye for detail.

James Gordon celebrates pop culture’s most iconic creative minds through his “Damien McQueen” art piece, which combines the signature styles of British designed Alexander McQueen, and British artist, Damien Hirst.  The result is an eye-catching skull with a tilted halo on its head, both of which are made from different cut pieces of crystals.

Prominently displayed in J Plus Hotel by YOO’s dedicated art space adjacent to the hotel lobby, Peter Blake and James Gordon’s work will be accessible to art lovers visiting and living in the city during the promotional period.

This art collaboration further reinforces J Plus Hotel by YOO’s commitment to engage Hong Kong’s creative audience through various art exhibition and programs aimed at growing awareness of local and international artistic talents based in Hong Kong.  Additionally, its partnership with The Cat Street Gallery reflects its commitment to tasteful, innovative art curated by one of the most well-respected art leaders in Hong Kong, Ms Mandy d’Abo.

“We are delighted to launch our second collaboration with the creative minds of J Plus Hotel by YOO.  Art@JPlushk is the ideal partner for The Cat Street Gallery to showcase our celebrated art work to people from all walks of life, and introduce local and international artists to a global crowd,” shares Ms Mandy d’Abo, Founder and Director of The Cat Street Gallery.
