With the nation hosting a series of events and festivals next year, there “really isn’t a better time to visit” Ireland, says the country’s Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar.
Talking to the ‘Gathering’, a campaign which encourages travelers to trace their roots in Ireland, Minister Varadkar told e-Travel Blackboard the packed events calendar would make Ireland “very exciting” throughout 2013.
Targeting an additional 325,000 visitors, the Minister said the public had thus far responded positively to the initiative, with up to one thousand ‘Gathering’ events already organized across the nation.
“It’s a celebration of our culture and music, our sports, food and everything really,” Mr Varadkar said.
“It starts on New Year’s Eve in Dublin but we’ve had a taste in 2012.”
According to the Minister, one of the big drawcards for tourists is the St Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin, which had already secured spots for two thousand people to take part in the event.
