When and why did you join the industry?

I joined in 1988 after a trip to Bali gave me the travel bug.

What do you like most about your job?

Travelling, I love it, from a local flight to Tassie, or on a cruise with the family to the South Pacific, walking a trail in Italy or seeing a travel icon for the first time, it is all still exciting to me.

What’s one of the biggest achievements of your career so far?

Being appointed to the role of National Business Development for Travel Counsellors. This role is all about our Travel Counsellors, guiding them in making their businesses grow and prosper. Assisting them in being in control of their business and their earnings and seeing them fulfil their dreams. Travel Counsellors is the leading and growing company and I am proud to be representing them to our Australian Industry partners and members.

What’s the best advice ever given to you and who gave it?

You can talk the talk and walk the walk, but you must be able to do the do, advice given to me by my father, Brian, when I was applying for my first role in management.

Who do you admire and see as a role model in the industry?

Glenyce Johnstone, Co Founder of Wandering the World, has been a huge influence on my career. As a women in the Travel Industry she sets a high bench mark in dedication, relationship building and insight.

What can people expect from your company and what sets it apart from the rest?

Our travel specialists share a passion for travel and love giving the very best level of service knowing customers are 100% genuinely financially protected. Plus, because no one supplier makes up more than 7% of our portfolio, customers get the holiday they want and not what agents are forced to sell. Working from home allows our agents a great life/work balance with a lot more time and flexibility to work the hours which fit around them and their clients. This results in a very happy work force (97% say they “Love their job”.

What destinations are on your travel bucket list?

 The pyramids of Chichén Itzá in Mexico, Turkey and most definitely Nepal.

What’s a memorable travel experience you’ve had (good or bad)?

I can’t give you only one but my moments in time include: My first glimpse of Petra bathed in candlelight, walking through the arch in Agra to see the Taj Mahal, just an unexpected great moment! Watching a storm engulf the ruins of Machu Picchu before my eyes and climbing to the rim of Mount Vesuvius and seeing the Bay of Naples and Pompeii below.

What are three things you always take with you when travelling?

My smile, my camera and my sense of adventure.

Name someone famous you’d like to travel with and a destination you’d like to go with them.

I would like to travel with Angelina Jolie Pitt and see firsthand her amazing humanitarian work around the world.

What direction do you see the industry heading in over the next five to ten years?

The opportunity for consultants to move away from the 9 to 5 of offices, and shopping centre hours to the freedom of home based work is phenomenal. The systems and processes now available to do this is far beyond any expectations I held for this sector in past years. It’s a gold mind for consultants will the will, drive and passion to have their own business and be in control of their own earnings and the way they wish to deliver outstanding personal customer service.
