Sail Athens to Istanbul on Star Clippers

Star Clippers’ Royal Clipper, Guinness World Record holder for largest square-rigger, will sail the Greek Islands and Turkey for the first time over seven nights in September 2016. The Inaugural Eastern Mediterranean sailing from Athens to Istanbul features visits to Mykonos, Patmos, Camlimani, Dikili and Bergama.

The Royal Clipper’s first ever ‘Delightful Dervishes’ itinerary begins in Piraeus, the Port of Athens, an ancient city and home to the Big Three in Greek Philosophy, Plato, Socrates and Aristotle. From there, visit Mykonos, known for its iconic white and blue Cycladic architecture, packed beaches and bustling streets, and where the sun shines 300 days a year.

Patmos, one of the northernmost islands of the Dodecanese complex, is both sacred and remote, and with a population of less than 3,000, this ‘sophisticated lady’ of the Greek Islands is a refuge for Madonna, David Bowie and Richard Gere.

The Royal Clipper will make a stop at Camlimani, near Kusadasi, on Turkey’s turquoise coast. Camilimani is a translucent bay ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Inland, archaeological and ethnographical Roman remnants inhabit the Museum in Selcuk and the historic grand fortress made of bricks and mortar at the top of Ayasoluk Hill.

For an authentic Turkish experience visit sleepy beach town Dikili, lined with open-air restaurants and shops with local food specialties, or explore the nearby villages and the picturesque Crater Lake, Madra stream, thick pine forests, and hot thermal springs.

Star Clippers provides the perfect way to explore the Eastern Mediterranean, with the Royal Clippers’ glorious masts and riggings reminiscent of the Golden Age of Sail, along with spacious accommodation, two swimming pools, elegant bars and dining, and panoramic views from the deck enroute to the next Mediterranean hotspot.
