Winter experiences in Switzerland

Switzerland Tourism advises agents that skiing and snowboarding aside, a host of other activities and experiences can further enhance their clients’ Swiss winter holiday itineraries.

Often, snow lovers heading over to Switzerland would visit a few ski resorts, stay in Alpine cabins and enjoy the slopes of different mountains. However, there are many other activities, which they may not be aware of that are equally fun and entertaining. Below are five activities that agents can suggest to their clients.

Titlis Cliff Walk
Take in views of the Alps from Europe’s highest suspension bridge. Stretching 100m long and suspended at 3,041m above sea level, this activity is well suited to adrenaline lovers and thrill seekers. Mt Titlis is easily accessible from Lucerne via a train ride to Engelberg following a cable car ride on the 360 degree revolving Titlis Rotair.

Skiing with 1HP
While there is skiing and snowboarding, combine either of sport with a horse and lead, and it becomes skijoring. A sport that is said to date back 4,000 years, this ancient tradition found a place at Chateaux d’Oex in the Vaud Region and has kept snow lovers entertained for more than 20 years now.

Spectacular sessions on the Schilthorn
Freestyle parks are great for skiers and snowboarders, but the views are unbeatable at the Skyline Snowpark atop the Schilthorn in the Jungfrau Region. This is also where Bond enthusiasts will find the interactive Bond World 007 exhibition and the revolving Piz Gloria restaurant.

The Après Ski Train
Four times a day, the converted train carriage will travel through the Oberalp Pass, shuttling snow enthusiasts from Andermatt to Disentis. Entertainment is provided along the way and the weekends will see a DJ spinning tunes to fire up the crowd. The après-ski train provides six disembarkation points to reach the pistes; and is free-of-charge for ski pass holders.

Snowshoeing in Interlaken
A great way to explore the winter landscape is on snowshoes. Lombachalp in Interlaken is synonymous with rest and relaxation, where visitors can enjoy the crunch of the snowshoes, while marveling at the snowy mountain-scape. The easiest way to reach Lombachalp is on the alpine bus from Habkern.
