Noella Ferns, British Airways’ executive vice president for Greater China and the Philippines, said, “In spring, travellers have the opportunity to enjoy different cities across Europe in a leisurely way before the peak summer season begins, with less crowds and more moderate weather in general. The longer daylight that starts from March 25 across Europe also allows travellers to explore more of the destinations in one trip.”

Picking the next destination could be somewhat challenging, therefore British Airways has hand-picked some cities for travellers from Hong Kong to consider.

London – Fun ways to relax in a metropolitan city

If you enjoy lying on the grass with a book under the warmth of sunshine, then Regent’s Park in spring would definitely be on your list. The lawn is greener than ever and the roses sitting in the gardens are blooming beautifully. Located centrally in London, the park spans 166 hectares and is the largest outdoor sports area in town catering for football, softball, rugby and cricket. If one finds lying on the soft green grass less productive, visitors could always explore the wildlife in the London Zoo located on the northern edge of the Park. Visitors can opt for a relaxing boating experience in the boating lake, and a foodie tour to discover a tantalising selection of London’s top restaurants at the Taste of London festival in June.

The Netherlands – Rejuvenate with the flower power

Let’s shelf those tasty Dutch cheese when talking about the Netherlands in spring, as part of the country will be decorated with sea of tulips in different colours. Flowers start to bloom from mid-March while the most beautiful and colourful patchwork of flowers will shine from mid-April to the first week of May. The longest tulip route can be found in the Noordoostpolder in Flevoland, which encompasses over 100 kilometres through nearly 2,500 acres of flowering fields. It has been elected as one of the world’s most beautiful road trips by National Geographic. Visitors can indulge themselves in the beauty and aroma of tulips. However, do not try to count the flowers as it’s just a “mission impossible”.

Croatia – A detox retreat in tranquillity

Famous for its serene scene of terraced lakes and beautiful waterfalls, Plitvice Lakes National Park in spring is second to none as a travel hotspot before the peak season in summer. As one of the most popular attractions in Croatia, the Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site located halfway between Zagreb and Zadar. The charm of the Park is manifested by the harmony between the luxuriant green vegetation and sixteen turquoise lakes, inter-connected by a series of waterfalls. This greenery curates an environment for visitors to relax off the grid and rejuvenate their body and mind. The Park covers a total area of 30,000 hectares so visitors can plan a two-day hike and stay at the campsite nearby to make true connections with campers offline.

Thanks to the long travel window of the special fares, travellers have a unique opportunity to lock down great deals for travel from April through to early December. One thing worth noting is that travelling to a destination in different seasons is always refreshing as no two travels are the same. In summer, travellers can maximise their journeys with the long daytime and indulge in water sports. In autumn, major cities across Europe are less busy after the summer holiday, and travellers can enjoy more affordable hotel accommodations and smaller crowds at popular attractions. From November onwards, most shops and streets across Europe will begin to light up with decorative lighting, when all over Europe, the countdown to one of the biggest festivals in the year – Christmas and New Year – will officially begin.

British Airways is investing £4.5 billion for its customers over the next five years, covering the installation of the best quality Wi-Fi and power in every seat, fitting 128 long-haul aircraft with new interiors and taking delivery of 72 new aircraft. The airline is also investing £600 million specifically in its Club World business class. In addition to the new catering and luxurious White Company bedding, a new seat with direct aisle access will also be introduced in 2019.
