East Coast Sri Lanka becomes more accessible
Tour Blue reports that the Batticaloa Domestic Airport commenced operating this week following the inauguration ceremony held under the patronage of Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva.
Shamraz Azeez, Operations Manager, stated “Batticaloa is only 45 minutes’ drive from Pasikuda, where one of our favourite properties, Uga Bay and other resorts are located.” “This will bring greater connectivity to the east coast and give our clients more choice in the way we tailor their itineraries”
The government spent AUD 28 million for the re-construction of Batticaloa Domestic Airport after its operations and maintenance were vested with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Several airline companies representing the private sector have expressed their willingness to contribute to passenger transportation between Ratmalana and Batticaloa and more scheduled domestic flights are expected.
