Bob Simpson – Vice President Expedition Cruising, Abercrombie & Kent USA
Abercrombie and Kent Philanthropy Australia (AKP), working with the Western Australian Chapter of Bicycles for Humanity, recently shipped 433 bikes to the Bwindi Women Bicycle Enterprise, as part of the AKP Bike Shop program.
Bob joined Abercrombie & Kent in February 1998 as the Director of Sales and Marketing of Explorer Shipping Corporation, A&K’s cruise operating company for the former M/S ‘Explorer’. Since 2003, Bob has served as Vice President of Expedition Cruising for Abercrombie & Kent, USA responsible for managing A&K’s expedition cruise charters, operations, sales and marketing with experience in operating expedition cruise programmes in Antarctica, The Amazon, throughout the South Pacific, Japan, Russian Far East, Alaska, the Arctic regions and more recently Europe.
In his 20 years with the company, Bob has worked very closely with the A&K Global Destination Management Company (DMC) network in various project capacities including the development of product and marketing alliances with such brands as National Geographic (National Geographic Private Journeys), Land Rover (Land Rover Adventures by Abercrombie & Kent) and Audi North America. Bob has also been integrally involved in many of A&K’s philanthropic based initiatives, including the implementation of A&K’s 2007 Climate Change Challenge and the early development of A&K’s Philanthropic Journeys, initially with the Climate Change Challenge “Mission trips” to Mount Kilimanjaro (led in October 2007 by Richard Wiese) and Antarctica (led by Dr. James McClintock). On each of these Mission trips, through A&K Philanthropy, guests funded the acquisition and delivery of Climate Change research and scientific equipment that is still being used in these regions.
Bob has travelled to Antarctica on five separate expedition cruise vessels. With this unique perspective on the importance of the expedition vessel hardware, Bob hand selected sister ships M/V ‘Le Boreal’ and ‘M/V Le Lyrial’ as the ideal fit both in delivering the amenities required and expected by our guests as well as providing the necessary elements and support for the educational and enrichment platform developed by Abercrombie & Kent over more than 25 years.
