IHG announces signing of Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets

Australia’s most iconic food market will be the focal point of IHG’s latest hotel signing, with Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets set to open in 2020 in partnership with Primefield Property Pty Ltd.

The sixteen-storey boutique hotel on Market Street, which will shortly commence construction, will be the first Hotel Indigo in Adelaide and the sixth signing for the brand in Australasia, following Hotel Indigo Brisbane Fortitude Valley, Melbourne Docklands, Sydney Central, Melbourne Little Collins Street and Auckland.

No two Hotel Indigo properties are the same, with each drawing on the story of its local area to inspire every aspect of the hotel to help guests feel part of the destination. With its vibrant atmosphere and special place in Adelaideans’ hearts, there would be few neighbourhoods more would be more apt for a Hotel Indigo than the Central Market precinct.

Built in 1869, Adelaide Central Market is one of Adelaide’s best-known landmarks one of Australia’s largest fresh produce markets providing a range of fresh and multi-cultural products, including fruit & vegetables, meat & seafood, cafes, breads and much more.[1] Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets will draw on this personality through distinctive architectural and interior design that will flow through the 137 rooms, meeting spaces, gym and level four pool with sun deck. And with such a thriving hub of produce and culture at its doorstep, local food will be integral to the hotel’s neighbourhood café and rooftop bar.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the signing of Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets, an upper upscale accommodation for the inspired traveller.”

“Hotel Indigo will complement IHG’s existing Holiday Inn Express, InterContinental and soon-to-open Crowne Plaza, giving travellers options to cater to every stay”, he added.

The deal was agreed between IHG and owner Primefield Property Pty Ltd, who was represented by Rob Williamson and Vasso Zographou of Savills Australia.

Nick Lee, Director at Primefield Property Pty Ltd, said: “Adelaide is currently one of the more stable Australian hotel markets and the Central Market is the most visited place in South Australia, with approximately 8 million visitors per year.[2] We are thrilled to partner with IHG, one of the world’s leading hotel management companies, to bring the Hotel Indigo brand to Adelaide. We are confident that it will be a strong performing hotel that will be loved by locals and visitors alike.”

The hotel enjoys the ideal location in the centre of the Adelaide’s square mile, with close proximity to corporate and leisure demand generators including the market precinct, Chinatown, restaurants, retail and the courts. It’s also a short 6km from Adelaide Airport.

IHG currently has 48 hotels operating under four brands in Australasia, including: InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, with another 22 in the pipeline, including Hotel Indigo, EVEN Hotels and vocoTM. Watermark Hotel & Spa joined the IHG system in June and will rebrand as voco later in 2018.
