London’s luxurious Claridge’s Hotel has once again confirmed its iconic status as a destination in its own right as the winner of the Tea Guild’s Top London Afternoon Tea 2011 Award.
From childhood, generations of children eager to grow up and become Claridge’s patrons readily imitate, with children’s tea sets, the ceremony and etiquette which is long associated with the very British daily ritual of indulging in afternoon tea.
Today, visitors from around the world, including Asia’s own tea connoisseurs, flock to Claridge’s when visiting London, eager to indulge in their own very British afternoon tea celebration within the salubrious surroundings of this acknowledged art deco architectural gem.
"As a proud member of The Tea Guild we are delighted and honoured to receive this hugely prestigious award,” stated Claridge’s General Manager, Thomas Kochs. “All Claridge’s staff are passionate about creating a memorable guest experience and when it comes to serving the perfect afternoon tea, we strive to get every detail just right. Claridge’s afternoon tea is a time-honoured indulgence, practiced by generations of tea lovers."
The Tea Guild event, now in its 26th year, is considered the ‘Oscar’ of the tea world, with world-famous London hotels and tea rooms competing for the highly coveted honour.
Claridge’s gained the 2011 top spot for London tea destinations after impressing Tea Guild judges with its exceptional service, great quality tea and the extensive knowledge of the staff.
The five-star Claridge’s hotel in the heart of bustling Mayfair, is a byword for luxury, sophistication and elegance and has an enviable reputation for fine living and dining reaching right across the globe. The hotel traces its history back to 1812, and over the following 200 years has played host to royalty stars, statesmen and a discerning clientele who have a deep appreciation of its rich heritage.
A team of Tea Guild experts take tea in the hotels and tearooms of London and across Britain in order to find the finest tea experiences. All visits are anonymous in order to ensure that the declared results are completely fair and accurate. Judges awarded points for the variety, flavour and knowledge of the teas offered, together with the quality of food, service, décor, ambience, and presentation. With 125 points to be lost or gained on the judge’s scorecard, only those tea establishments achieving the very highest standards across a number of categories make it to the top.
