‘Great Wines of Italy’ Introduces Asia’s Biggest Italian Wine Showcase

Over 300 Premium Italian Wines Uncorked on December 4, 2012

On 4 and 5 December 2012, Great Wines of Italy will bring “la dolce vita” to Hong Kong with the launch of a two-day trade and consumer tasting event. Showcasing 300 of their top wines, over 90 Italian wine producers will make the trip to Hong Kong shores to attend the event.

Initiated by international media group Edipresse, publishers of the high society luxury lifestyle magazine Hong Kong Tatler, in partnership with James Suckling, renowned as one the world’s most influential wine critics, the highest-rated wines from wineries of every Italian region will be presented at the main tasting extravaganza on 4 December.

Among top producers attending are Antinori, Frescobaldi, Ornellaia, Bruno Giacosa, Casanova di Neri (Brunello di Montalcino), San Guido (Sassicaia), Castiglion del Bosco, Tenuta Sette Ponti – Feudo Maccari – Orma, Casanova di Neri, Il Borro (Ferruccio Ferragamo), Giacomo, Neri, Valdicava, Castello Banfi, Ceretto and Roberto Voerzio.

“The renaissance of premium Italian wine is happening now in Hong Kong and never before has Italy made so many great wines in so many different regions,” says James Suckling. “This historic occasion will be a treat for industry specialists, wine traders, collectors and anyone with a passion for great wine.”

Grand Tastings in the Island Shangri-La Island Ballroom are being separated into two – from 3pm to 5pm for industry and trade professionals, and from 5pm to 8pm for wine collectors and general public enthusiasts.

As many believe that great wines can’t go without the right stemware, glass manufacturer Spiegelau will provide the glasses for each event, maximising the flavour and bouquet of each wine.

A VIP Gala Dinner for private collectors, socialites and winemakers follows on 5 December, featuring an exclusive preview wine auction of rare vintages led by America’s oldest wine shop Acker Merrall & Condit Company, and a 9-course dinner by Michelin-star Chinese cuisine by Chef Ip Chi-cheung of the Island Shangri-La’s signature Cantonese restaurant Summer Palace. Hong Kong Tatler and James Suckling will host the event, with entertainment by Isabel Suckling (soprano) and Phoebus Chan (pianist).

To mark this special event Edipresse will publish a Great Wines of Italy Wine Guide, which will be distributed free to ticket holders on both days of the event. The guide will be available for purchase at selected bookstores from 6 December.
